THE CHARACTER CHARACTER NAME : Nymphadora Tonks Lupin. AGE/BIRTHDAY : 25 years old/30 March, 1973. WAND : 12 inches, hazelnut wood, unicorn hair core. BLOODLINE : Halfblood; her mother is a pureblood witch and her father is a muggleborn wizard. WHY TONKS : I've never played her before and wanted to give her a try. WHAT IS ON THE LEX : She's the daughter of Ted Tonks and Andromeda (Black) Tonks, and she's related to the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black. Nymphadora was her real name, but she preferred to be called Tonks by her peers. She was born around 1973 and was a Metamorphmagus. Tonks tended to change her hair colour and style often without a greater purpose. She attended Hogwarts from 1984 to 1991 and was sorted into Hufflepuff House. She caused her share of trouble but got excellent marks and, though she says she nearly failed Stealth and Tracking, became an auror and member of the Order of the Phoenix. Aside from being in the Advance Guard to transport Harry Potter from the Dursleys to Grimmauld Place, she participated in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, the Battle of the Tower, the Battle of the seven Harrys, and the Battle of Hogwarts, and in all but the the third she was at least attacked by Bellatrix Lestrange. She fell in love with Remus Lupin and after they were married they had one son named Teddy Lupin. She died on May 2nd, 1998 in the Battle of Hogwarts. Her patronus was an immense four-legged creature, and she loved popular music. I'm not changing any canon information about her. CHARACTERS SHE WOULD INTERACT WITH : Andromeda (Black) Tonks, Sirius Black, Dawlish, Elphias Doge, Albus Dumbledore, Remus Lupin, Teddy Lupin, Alastor Moody, Harry Potter, Ted Tonks, Molly (Prewett) Weasley (and all of the Weasleys from her time), Hermione Granger, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Hestia Jones, other Order members. PLAYED BY : Kristen Bell. SEXUAL ORIENTATION : Heterosexual. This has been shown canonly since she has a crush on and then proceeds to marry one Remus Lupin. PERSONALITY : Tonks is often seen as immature and impulsive, and though those traits aren't far off base, there is more to Tonks besides her bubble-gum pink hair and Weird Sisters t-shirt. Generally speaking, Tonks is a cheerful, optimistic young woman. She loves to laugh and will find the humour in any situation. She lives to perform and make people smile and laugh, and it's something she does quite well. Things are never as bad as they seem, and there's always hope. She's never been good at hiding her emotions. If her face doesn't betray what she's feeling, her hair does. When it comes to work she does her job well, as aurors are required to be able to react well under pressure. But in more personal matters, she's like an open book. When Remus Lupin shied away from her advances she all but wilted into the corner. There's never a question on where Tonks stands on any issue. She's like an open book, in that sense, and she doesn't see any reason to lie. She can admit her short-comings and even tends to laugh at her own absurdity. It may seem that she doesn't think about what she's doing, but every action that she's taken has been out of loyalty. She chose to join the Ministry and then the Order because it was what she was good at, and because she wanted to help the people she cared about. She took part in battles because she felt it was her place. She had to do it. It was what she'd been trained for. She'd never done well when it came to sitting behind the sidelines. FAMILY : FATHER : Ted Tonks. He calls her Dora. She adores him. MOTHER : Andromeda (Black) Tonks. She sees her mother as the enforcer. Nymphadora thinks her mother is quite brave. MATERNAL COUSINS : Sirius and Regulus Black. Nymphadora never interacted with Regulus, but she loved Sirius. MATERNAL AUNTS : Bellatrix (Black) Lestrange and Narcissa (Black) Malfoy. She doesn't talk to them, and the animosity runs pretty high, as shown by Bellatrix killing her. MATERNAL UNCLES BY MARRIAGE : Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange; Lucius Malfoy. No interaction. COUSIN : Draco Malfoy. She never interacted with him and hardly knew about him. HUSBAND : Remus Lupin. She'd had a crush on him for a little while, through their interactions in the Order. The relationship is, from her perspective, quite strong. She literally died fighting with him and would do it again. SON : Ted "Teddy" Remus Lupin. Nymphadora hardly got any time with him, but she loved him and she was fighting for him as well. PERSONAL HISTORY : Nymphadora Tonks was born bright and early one March morning in 1973. Her birth represented a union that, in many eyes, never should have been. Her mother had been a member of The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black up until her marriage to muggleborn Ted Tonks. Andromeda was unceremoniously burned off the Black family tapestry, and that was that. More or less. Nymphadora was made aware of all of these things as she grew up, but she didn't much care. She thought it was silly and, if anything, it irritated her that anyone could do such a thing to her mother. As though a decision like that had been easy. Nymphadora grew up knowing that the family unit was important, that you really had to pull together, and if everyone didn't agree on things well, there was no need to go about burning things, for Merlin's sake. If they were going to be so mental about it, then they could go off and inbreed, for all she cared. Her childhood could never be described as dull. She was still a baby when her parents discovered that her hair had turned a rather bright shade of pink. She didn't appear to be ill and, in fact, was laughing and playing. Over the next few days her hair changed multiple times, and a connection was made between the colour-changing and her mood. Once they realized they had a Metamorphmagus on their hands, they reacted proudly and accordingly. Her parents still brought her out in public, but always with a hat on. She wasn't even ten years old when Sirius Black was thrown into Azkaban. Nymphadora was shocked and upset. She didn't know what to think. She knew what all the papers were saying, all the Ministry officials and anyone on the street, but this was her own flesh and blood, and she never would have thought him capable of that. By the time she got to Hogwarts she had a better grip on her Metamorphmagus abilities. She was sorted into Hufflepuff and overall got on well with her housemates. The name Nymphadora had always rubbed her oddly, as though it was too pretty, and her mother certainly had a way of adding a dangerous edge to it when Nymphadora was getting into trouble. So she told people to call her Tonks. Just Tonks, if you please. Once her origins were discovered there were no end to the questions, but Tonks was in no mood to deal with that sort of thing, and before long she'd put an end to the questions and storm off. Once the allure of her family background had more or less worn off, Tonks settled quite comfortably. She loved mischief and spent a great deal of her time at Hogwarts getting into trouble, either by herself or with friends. Her pranks were never very serious or harmful. Her O.W.L.S. didn't really shock anyone. She was good at her classes when she applied herself. Her professors knew she was quite capable, and Tonks herself knew the material. At the beginning of her sixth year she slowly began to buckle down, to really work hard on her academics, and the work paid off. She graduated in June of 1991 with high marks and qualified for auror training, and three years later she was a fully-qualified auror. She'd excelled in most areas, especially in Concealment and Disguise (her Metamorphmagus abilities played a heavy hand there) but didn't do quite so well in Stealth and Tracking. Her last year in training was particularly difficult, as the topic of Sirius Black was being revisited. The news was that he'd broken out of Azkaban, but as the events unfolded, she found it so easy to accept that he'd been innocent. She joined the Order and did a lot of good work, from transporting Harry from the Dursleys to Grimmauld Place, fighting and getting wounded during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, being stationed at the school for a year and then fighting in the Battle of the Tower, taking part and getting wounded during the Battle of the Seven Harrys, and then of course, the Battle of Hogwarts. During all of this, she began to fancy Remus Lupin. She couldn't really help it. He was a friend of Sirius' and had been one of the first to convince people that Sirius was innocent, and he's played a role in what eventually led to Sirius' escape from the Dementor's Kiss. He was an Order member as well, and she was crushed to find her affection was not returned, coupled with Sirius Black's recent death. There were many arguments, both spoken and unspoken, about life being too short to worry about such things as werewolves and age difference, and in the summer of 1997 they were married. Tonks became pregnant just a short time later and had to sit out on many missions. This especially frustrated her with the death of Albus Dumbledore and her mentor, Alastor Moody, but sit out she did. Tonks' son, Ted Remus Lupin, was named after his father and grandfather, as Ted Tonks had been killed not long before that. When the Battle of Hogwarts began, Remus Lupin left to fight, but Tonks would not be left behind. She reasoned that this was her battle too. She was fighting for her way of life, so her son could have a better future. She left Teddy in the care of her mother and went to Hogwarts. She fought alongside Remus, and that was when her aunt, Bellatrix Lestrange, finally succeeded in killing her. It was May 2nd, 1998, and Nymphadora Tonks Lupin was twenty-five years old. THE SAMPLES FIRST PERSON SAMPLE : I'm going to be twenty-five tomorrow. Twenty-five years old. How the bleeding hell did that happen? Seems like just yesterday I was a teenager at Hogwarts. A lot of people say their best years were at Hogwarts, but that's depressing. You only spend seven years there and then move on with the rest of your life, and what's that saying if you've already made up your mind that the best years of your life are gone? Course I can't really say which were the best years of my life. They were all okay or shitty in their own way. I hope things get better later on. I sure as hell never expected to be where I am now. If you'd told me even in my last year that I'd get married, I'd say you were mental. Yet here I am, and it looks as though I've swallowed an oversized Quaffle. THIRD PERSON SAMPLE : Now that Tonks was unable to work or go on missions, she spent a fair amount of her time at home with her mother. She could tell Andromeda worried about Ted. There'd been no news, no way of telling if he was alive and well. The fact that his death hadn't been reported was a good sign, and Andromeda was a strong woman. If she worried about Ted often, she hardly showed it. Now Tonks was sitting in the living room. Her stomach was tucked quite conveniently underneath the coffee table that she was sitting at. She felt like a child, sitting on the ground with her legs crossed and her back curved so that she would draw. But she wasn't drawing or colouring now. She was making a photograph album for her baby. She had all sorts of pictures scattered here and there, and she turned over each one to write a description, the year if she could remember it, and all the names. Should she write Mum? Nymphadora? Her automatic thought was to write Tonks. Even if she was Nymphadora Tonks Lupin now, she'd just gotten so used to being called by her maiden name. And Nymphadora just seemed so flowery. After some consideration, she wrote Mum and moved on to the next one. SUPPORT : It would be a cold day in hell before she joined Voldemort's side.
